You won't need eyes where we're going!

Anyone-Seen-Event-Horizon?

Just won this on ebay for $25.47 including shipping from England. I love the huge dead looking eyes on front, but I really picked it up for the reverse.

Notice the head is off the flan but still present. This is definitely going to be one of my favorites. Unless it is a sprue, then I will be a little put out.

I think this mint's issue of the coin is considered scarce anyway, but that reverse has to make this a one of a kind piece. Unless it is a sprue.

Interesting coin. I do not think that is a sprue, but it does make make for an interesting little side piece.

I don't think it is either, but I accept that it is a possibility. I'm not going to rule it out until I have it in hand.

I really like the quadriga reverse! The front looks a bit like Cyclops

whoa.....that is wierd!

Anyone-Seen-Event-Horizon?

ok, I don't know what a sprue is...found this on wikipedia...

Quote:
Casting

In casting, a sprue is the passage through which a molten material is introduced into a mold, and the term also refers to the excess material which solidifies in the sprue passage. In sand casting, the sprue is formed by a dowel which is removed from the sand to make the hole into which the metal is poured.

is that what in means in this context?

Yes. Cast coins have a sprue from where the channel in the mold was. Sometimes the person making the fake does a very bad job of removing evidence. Here is a link to a coin in the forvm's section about fakes. They have some great information over there, I learned a lot from them.
