The 1948 dollar is a "money coin", that is, all it takes is money to find and buy a nice one.

The 1948 Dollar is the "1909-S VDB" of Canada.
No problem at all to acquire one if you spend the money.

I'd say a strong VF with a couple of rim dings on the reverse.
Personally I don't think it a bad looking coin, opinions of other posters notwithstanding.
As noted, 1948 dollars are not hard to find, particularly circulated examples.
If you can get it at low VF money, go for it.

I would not buy a 1948 dollar unless I bought it from a reputable dealer and/or graded by ICCS or PCGS. Too many fakes going around.

Unlike many Canadian coins, the prices on 1948 dollars don't seem to be too negotiable. If you can get a certified VF20 under $1100 or MS-60 under $1700, I would consider it a good deal.

Canadian Coin has umpteen dozen '48's in holders and out of holders but they won't sell anything non-slabbed.
