I see 1200.00 as a VF 30 ... Just curious , is there something going on around the C in Canada and above and between the N & A also.... There appears to be some color diffrence ? maybe just my eyes...

Based on the obverse, I'd say the grade looks AU or close. Plus a couple of rim dings on the reverse.

Wait ! Better examples abound. The 1948 dollar is not hard to find nice, they are just pricey.

the dings on the rim would turn this into at most a 500.00 coin.

John is quite right you can buy an off grade for 700-800 . ebay at 900 is in reality abt 775-800 when you take all the fees into consideration. The 1948 dollar is a very overrated coin and readily available any day of the week. It is just a "Name" coin that everyone knows thus popular = pricey. So goes supply and demand. There used to be a joke about the 48 dollar between dealers that went something like this of the 18,780 that were minted all 55,000 are still ariound.! Have a good one J

these 48 were at toronto coin expo and at the guelph show at dealers booth, the only point that I wanted to make is would you pay 1000.00 for this damaged coin even if it grades au50?

I wouldn't even buy a 1948 unless it was choice, myself, and then I would need a deep discount. The 1948 dollar is a coin I just hate to stock! Lots of other neat stuff for far less that sells a heck of a lot better!

The 1948 dollar is a "money coin", that is, all it takes is money to find and buy a nice one. I concur with 54dollarcoins, wait for a better one, unless you can snag it for under $800.

I find the 1948 dollar extremely overrated as many members already stated above. That being said, you cant argue with supply and demand. Personally, I think that coin is worth $500-$700max
