Hi guys, I need your lights

I have an Iranian coin which I'm not really sure when it was made. Its date print seem to be anomalous. While I'm not an arab expert, I think I can understand the numbers in arabics through a table that has the correlations of western and arabic numbers. At any rate, I've managed to properly catalogue around 25 arab-looking coins through the dates (arab numbers) but this Iranian 2 Rial has got me troubled that I've possibly found an irregularity (?)

Take a look at the date and tell me your opinions (a) about if there is some irregularity - which I think there is, (b) what date do you read, and (c) what type of coin is this anyway.. is it silver? is it nickel?

Persians do have a funky 4 (the third symbol).
The coin is dated SH 1342, or 1963, 2 rials. I don't have my books on me but I don't believe it has any silver, plain Cu-Ni.

Yep, "Persian numerals" have different symbols for 4, 5 and 6. The other numerals are the same as Arabic.

Iran and Afghanistan also use a different calendar to the lunar calendar the rest of the Islamic world uses, the Solar Hejira. Simply add 621 to convert SH to AD dates.

To confuse things even more, some coins from the last years of the Shah are dated in the ancient Persian calendar. See this old thread for some more examples.

Ah, that was most helpful to resolve the confusion
