I bought a North Africa $10 35 PPQ for $55 with shipping yesterday. A total impulse purchase since I had 2 North Africa $10s come in the mail yesterday. But the price seemed too good for a graded note to pass up. Another went 35 PPQ went for $89 later in the day. So did I do good or did my greed get the best of me?

I would only have one, being a type collector, however, there are times when I place a low bid on something and if I win it, I will flip it. Unless it is an upgrade on a previous purchase. Overall, I see nothing wrong with making a good purchase.

You may be hoarding North African 10's but don't know it, if you buy one to up-grade your collection that's ok, but if you buy two or more your are either building up a dealer stock or becoming a hoarder. Be very careful, this currency collecting thing can turn into a disease and it seems the only temporarily cure is to buy more currency. The only way I got cured was by convincing myself that at my age I don't need any more than one of anything, so far that's been working. Bill Collector

You did better than the person who paid $89.00. Maybe. Remember that block letters are important for this series.

If your Goal is to have a type set of North Africans like the 1,5,and 10, I wouldn't worry so much about block letters, fancy numbers, and things like that, I would go for condition, that's what makes a type set "look" nice. Bill Collector

you didn't mention it so I have to ask, who graded the note? That could effect the value of the note also

PCGS. All but 1 of my graded notes are PCGS, and that one is PMG.

You're okay right now, but if you buy another, I think that's hoarder status right there. On a separate note, you did well on the graded example.

Quote: Be very careful, this currency collecting thing can turn into a disease and it seems the only temporarily cure is to buy more currency A few weeks back I went to my storage...I was amazed as to what I HAVE saved...after a point I started counting just the face value and got a even bigger headache and decided to leave them and go back to it another day. Yes some of it's just worth face, but I can justify why I bought / saved / collected / traded into each and every one of the notes. May be there is a CC (currency collector) anonymous out there somewhere.....

BC, I am still trying to sort out how to sell / trade the extra's....But the market is soft and not sure how many on this forum are into fancy sn type notes like Nick and I...or even for that matter ChCu short run star pairs etc.
On the other side of things...my rarer fancy sn notes are stronger / have solid bids but I am not willing to let them go.
BTW, I do find room for more stuff...It's called.....more storage.
One more thing...not to offend anyone...what is considered RARE is NOT that rare
Even Zeeeeeeeee would understand...I miss that poster.

Hi Ceylon62, You say your not sure how many on this forum are into fancy sn type notes. I agree, sometimes I wonder how many are currency collectors in general. I've had a Want to Buy list up for awhile now, it's had over 200 hits, but haven't bought one note that is on my list.
I do get a lot of questions like what are F numbers, what does DC and FW mean, or how do I tell if the bill I have is XF, with questions like that I know I'm not talking with a currency collector that has been at it awhile.
I guess everyone has to start somewhere and this seems to be one of the better sites for young and older beginners.
I don't mind helping a beginner, but it gets to be such a wast of time with all the "whats it worth" post. I wish CCF had a separate section for the "whats it worth" crowd, they could post all that type of thing there, and the regular Paper Money section could be used for learning about Currency Collecting. I belive that Currency Collecting is more than just about "whats it worth".
I've never tried to sell anything on this site so don't know how good it is for selling, as most know I'm more of a collector, than a seller or dealer. One thing for sure, I haven't been able to buy anything, maybe it's more of a sellers site, then again if it's more of a sellers site I cant imagine why I haven't been able to buy anything ?.
