I went to bid on a note last night on ebay and was basically told I couldn't because of some seller rule. This is a seller specific issue since I had bid on and bought something else. I have a 100% rating and am a very fast pay. Anyone else ever see this happen or know why it might? As far as I know I have never bought from this seller but I think I have bid on a couple items.

Here is the message I get. Both the seller and I are U.S. based and this is a large dealer.
Seller not accepting your bid
•Unfortunately, the seller cannot accept your bid on this item. This can happen for a couple of reasons. For example, the seller may be limiting how many items you can buy from him or her in a specific time period. Learn more.

Have you placed bids on some of his other items these past few days ?
It happened to me before, where a seller only allowed me to bid on one of his items every week or so.

Sellers can block buyers from bidding on or purchasing their items by specifying buyer requirements. Sellers can block buyers who: - Don't have a PayPal account - Have unpaid items recorded on their accounts - Have a primary shipping address in countries Sellers don't ship to - Have reportedly violated ebay policies - Have a Feedback score lower than the number Sellers specify - Are currently winning or have bought 1-100 of same Seller items in the last 10 days (seller can specify the number) Cheers

I think I may know what it is. I received a partial refund from a buyer awhile back and on my account it shows partial pay even though I am paid in full. That is the only thing I can figure out.

Even though I have not used ebay since 2006 due to fraud, a few years earlier I did purchase a triple struck coin from South America, and after the seller not sending me the coin or answering my emails, I left him negative feedback about 6 weeks after paying him. I then bid on another error coin from another seller located in South America, and for some unknown reason was blocked from bidding on his auctions (even though I never had any type of transaction from this seller)... In hindsight, I now believe both sellers are the same seller ripping people off. BTW ~ after I posted negative feedback, within a few days 6 other bidders also gave him negative feedback, but didn't want to be the first person to do so...

It may be that he set a reserve or your bid is not high enough.

I know sellers can block certain members from bidding on their items also. I am not saying this is what has happened in this case but I know it can happen. I have hard of some sellers blocking buyers because in their opinion "they are too picky" and they shipped an item back. If they think it will be more problems than its worth to try and satisfy a buyer that will block them

Welcome to the club! I have been "banned" from Great Southern because I sent them too many corrections for their mislabed coin listings.

I may be wrong on this but I think that on ebay, a seller has a LOT of leeway to reject bids for almost any reason. Many sellers nowadays will routinely block ANY bidder who has left ANY negative feedback for anyone. They are afraid of the risk of spoiling a "perfect" feedback score with a customer who has crossed the emotional line of leaving a neg. Feedback is but one of the many aggravations of ebay.

oih82w8 If Great Southern banned you I wonder if you sent them a correction on copper coins listed as "original" that were cleaned.

Here's my Two Cents on ebay bids being rejected. I could understand a seller limiting how many "wins" he or she would allow a single bidder to win if they were selling any kind of novelty item or if it were some hotcake item that were using for self promotion. Now me I would not care on that cause I sell coins or well the coins I sell let's say are not novelty items. I do understand blocking certain countries. On ebay I will NOT ship to China period. Certainly there are nice people in China but that country has a government with completely unacceptable politics. Combine Communism with encouraging numismatic fraud and that's enough for my Black Book (which the Nevada Gaming Commission calls the List of Excluded Persons). How would China react if America either turned a blind eye or encouraged people to but fakes out there of Communist China coinage? (Chinese law does allow their citizens to copy an coin of any country they want so long as it is not a Chinese coin dated 1949 or after and 1949 being the year the Reds took over. People who get caught doing this get a ride in the death van.)

Remember, the seller needs you far more than you need him. Buy else where, as what ever notes he has, someone else might have the same thing nicer and cheaper. Send him a note and tell him you will no longer bid on his items so that he is aware of it.

My bids have also been blocked or not accepted by one particular seller after I bid on 5 items within a 10 day period. These setting can be set by the seller in buyer requirements.
