I really like the small fractional coins from the early 19th century. Here is an 1837 Half Farthing I picked up a couple of months ago:   |

So, if we're talking lustre on old bronze and copper, how about this? 1841 half penny. Uncirculated. UK members here may remember how, a few years ago, an original mint sealed bag of these was discovered and the coins subsequently sold individually for £50 a pop. Those of us who were aware of them grabbed a bargain.   Edited by Hogarth

Here's another I have which retains almost all original lustre. My apologies, it's so shiny getting a decent photograph with my phone is proving more difficult than I'd expected.   |

On the pre-1797 copper coins you don't tend to get much lustre, even on the best examples, so this is pretty good for a George II:   |

You're quite right Paddy we don't often see lustre on 18th century copper but I do have a couple. Here's my 1736 farthing.   |

Nice coins - but I suspect the 1862 and both the 1730s Farthings have been re-toned at some stage? There seems to be too much wear to the high points for that much lustre to be showing...?

No, the colour is authentic on them all. The problem is my poor phone photography and the detail on each coin is much sharper than it looks here.
What appears to be circulation wear on the 1736 obverse is the result of either a weak strike or worn die.
