Now with most of the easy to find Halfcrowns out of the way, I have moved on to FLORINS





I have a few already and most of the cupronickel ones, but have started with this goodFine 1923, not the rarest or most exquisite piece, but a steal at $10 (£5), which is like 30% mark up on the silver price.

The dealer is selling me 17 more dates between 1917 and 1945 for $9 each in most cases and most are similar condition except a 1917 I am paying $40 for, which is close to EF. I will show you these coins when they arrive.

Bit of an instant collection I know, but I want to start getting better gothic Florins and Edwards!

The better coins are 1917 and 1918 VF/gVF





The 1917 was not cheap at $40 and 1918 was $25. What was hilarious was I recognised my handwriting on the 1918 and thought this may be from my long lost 1990s collection stolen in 2001 - but it turned out to be from coins I used to sell in the early 2010s. My photos proved I sold the coin in March 2014, when I was strictly into stamps only and not keeping silver coins. Back then I was unemployed and had a gambling addiction. Now I am glad its back as I sold some nice coins in those days!

My coin ladies from the Op shop used to bring me nice collections of silver and finer rare pieces, now its all clad junk and I suspect they are selling their good stuff to someone else. From 2010 to 2017 I would onsell any silver or gold and most of the clad junk just keeping a few common pieces for myself. I got seriously back into coins about 18 months ago and keep 90% of the nice stuff and move out all the junk, just keeping one coin of each denomination for the world pages.





I paid a bit more for these two as they are less common dates (About 4 or 5 million each) the 1930 which is close to VF I paid $14 and the 1931 which is Fine I paid $11.

Edwards and earlier will be hard, expensive in better than worn condition and not too easy to find.

Thanks, Princetane. I probably would have passed on the purchase if it were a Jubilee Head. I'm not sure if the spots are ugly toning or environmental damage.

This 1929 only cost me $10, that is just a dollar more than the worn Fine one I already had and just 30% higher than melt.




This must be EF or very close to it.

I love this design and are thrilled finally to have a near new looking one with lustre, a companion for my stunning halfcrown of that year. It helps too that 1929 was a common year and surprisingly a lot of good coins survive from that year.
(Just try getting a 1930 in the same shape)
