One of the most recent acquisitions for my Regency Period collection is this 1811 halfpenny token issued by a Norwich jewelry and precious metals business, Dunham & Yallop Goldsmiths. This piece features Hope standing and the city's arms, which are in turn topped by the plumes of the Prince of Wales, who in 1820 ascended to the Throne as King George IV. Interestingly, two decades earlier this same establishment was issuing tokens that we now know as Norwich D&H 26-33. Their name appears on a shop's facade on a few of those varieties and as edge advertising on others. Folks who collect Conders may know whether the shop depicted was actually Dunham & Yallop's or whether it's instead a generic representation...an idealized shopfront, as it were. This particular specimen is a pattern, differing from the regular strikes in about a half dozen ways, and it's one of only two known to exist. Cost a pretty penny, so to speak, but apparently that's where my collection has taken me: the fewer holes I have left to fill, the harder it gets to accomplish that. The story of our lives, right? Then I started the ORDEAL of trying to buy directly from The Royal Mint. took almost a hour just to check out. I actually had to deposit money into their system BEFORE I could check out and then I didn't know the full price to deposit. THEN my bank called me asking if it was an actual authorized payment from me. Then back to the mint to try a checkout allover again. had to refresh the page over and over again several times until the site displayed a 'current' bullion before I was allowed to advance to finalize the process. I tell ya what, we here complain about the U.S. Mint and their process... Collecting since 1972. Learning from then on "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.
