I love Gothic Florins but those two shillings are absolutely wonderful. Picked up this 1836 halfcrown of William IV for $9.00, he's "well-travelled" but the melt value is something like $7.30 so I can't complain too much, and I didn't have one of these anyway. At a few bob over melt that's a good buy and certainly worth having.
Anyway, give bullion prices a couple of weeks, you'll have paid less than melt, and it'll be an even better bargain!

A decent 1889 crown, which I found at a local community hall attic/junk sale here yesterday afternoon. A little grubby, but uncleaned is always preferable and, at £30, there would be a bit of profit in it should I ever decide to move it on.   Edited by Hogarth

Common or not, that is a beautiful coin design and really essential in any British coin collection. It's actually a well priced coin for any collector and punches above its weight. Most are in very fine or better condition when circulation coins can be as worn as VG to Fine in many cases. Ryurazu, your coin is at least EF/AU and very nice - did you know they originally came in black plastic holders? The Kiwi's did a crown too with the same holders (All minted at Royal Mint)  What the holders looked like, with one of my 1953 crowns in it. |

Paralyse - I agree, I love Willy4 Halfcrowns. My first was this worn 1834 which I paid melt for too ($12 about 7.50US)   I also got a 1836 like yours - marginally less worn - but this coin was quite expensive ($40NZ or $25US)   You see a bit more detail on curtain and his hair, but its obvious compared to your coin - I overpaid for this! |

Lovely coins, PaddyB! One of my very first purchases as a youngster from a long-closed LCS was this 1837 William IV halfcrown. It cost me all of 25p! I think the dealer was being nice to me and encouraging me to collect!   |
