I love how this new (to me) Engelhard bar is more "loafy" to contrast with the more flat bar from Engelhard-London.

why does it say 996.0? It should be 999.0

It's 996.0 most likely because of the age of it. I've seen other vintage bars, usually measured in Tolas that are 996.0, but my understanding is that over time, 999 then 9999 became the standard. I'm not stressing over the "missing" 003.9 :)

You got to love that stuff, however, in my opinion, I would rather have a large quantity of smaller portions than big bars. My reasoning is it is easier to liquidate 1/4 ounce or half ounce portions than it is to find a buyer with 17,000 or 18,000 dollars.

If you show your larger size bullion, people say you should have gotten smaller amounts for ease of resell, etc. If you buy small increments of gold, other people say you shouldn't do that because the premium is really high. I like both lines of reasoning, so I tend to buy larger and smaller pieces . . . see?
