This has to be the ugliest 1976 Olympic gold I've seen yet... it actually almost looks as though it circulated. Just melt now. I don't have an ICCS population report, but would be interested in knowing how many were graded (in both sizes) and what is top.

Are you sure it sold for $100 when it was released.

Charlton shows issue price was $105.

Incidentally, there is also a 22k version that was issued for $150.

Mintage was 650k of the 14k version and 350k of the 22k version.

The 14k was also a 'circulation' finish while the 22k was proof.

Thanks, I just went and checked my charlton. I could've just waited on the couch for an answer.

NP.

I keep my catalogue next to the couch so I don't have to get up.

Looks like it could have been someone's pocket-piece for a time.

The 22k issue is beautiful though (IMO). Never did bother to get the 14k...agree, quite ugly.

I had a few of them from the bank in the late 70's - for $100.

Sold in the 80's...

I love the design (big fan of de Pedery-Hunt) and am looking to pick up one for my collection. I thought about the pocket piece thing too, commems.

Okay, I found a 1/2 ounce one with photos that make it look nasty...
