I recently purchased some shillings and was wondering if any of you have a basic guide on how to loosely grade them..ie, whether they're EF or VF, but don't need specific numbers or anything. Thanks

This is the only reference I have for Ireland grading. http://www.irishcoinage.com/GRADE_HC2.HTMLThis is upcoming website for coin photograding of British dealers and collectors. http://www.coins.gb.com/If you like you can post picture here, you and other US and world expert can grade it for other readers both in US and world method or standard and maybe let the forum tread find a method by it self, for others who have other grade to also post more likely a follow you post until the highest grade is achive and the moderator can compile them like a sticky on grading forum for grading shillings as a online reference if they will allow it,Im poor in grading. In GB they mentioned that the obverse is the priority in grading or they are basing it in the obverse or that is the important side.for me it should be both, just incase that the coin is graded in US standard OB is ms65 and the REV. is ms64 others can grade it ms65 how about both side are ms65 for me,if I know how to grade, the grade will be the whole MS65/MS64=MS65 OR MS65/MS65=MS65 JUST A THOUGHT. Any comment or additional info for grading GB shillings.

thanks both of you. I guess the problem is knowing how much wear on various areas is acceptable for each grade. For example, there are loose guidelines for grading US coins under the Coin Facts portion of the site. I guess I may just try posting pictures of them all and see what you guys think of them...

Yavaris I would grade all your coins as F - F+ as there is wear on the high surfaces, in saying so the side that has the worst wear gets the grade for the coin, this is how I grade coins. I know others will not like that, I know that Spink and other auction houses do that too.
I hope that gives you an indication of the grades.
Cheers
