Babysitr thank you for your reply!:) I am trying to learn more about this series also:)
It is my understanding that die state should not effect grade. My observation has been that a coin with a really worn die, like the one above, gets held back in grade. I am guessing that this is because things like the number of pillars showing effects the grade. Also I am thinking that most collectors would rather avoid coins made from a really worn die because it complicates grading and value.
I was at a show recently and found two Jeffersons I liked. One was slabbed and graded at low MS60ish. It had a really nice toning, it was attractive, and it was pricey.
The other Jefferson is the one I have posted above. It was only a $1.50:) Although its toning and attractiveness is not as good as the one I passed up its die state is very similar. I find the coin to be attractive and I am hoping to learn from its purchase. I would grade my new Jefferson purchase a MS60+, but I am wanting to learn more than I am wanting to be correct:)
My observations, guesses, and assumptions here could very well be totally wrong. Feel free set me straight.
