Boths sides and reeded edges are same color. There are no
scratches where it looks like the coin has been coated.
She weighs 5.85 grams. It was handed to my Mother as change
several days ago.

I have a set of State Quarters which have turned or toned into a golden hue. Your picture makes it hard for me to see a gold color change. Try a picture next to a normal quarter for comparison and use other light sources or camera settings to duplicate the color you see.

This is what my quarters look like (my picture is not the best but they look more golden in person) and I've shown a normal quarter on the right. Some think it could be caused by sulphur in the paper.

It is plated with something, probably gold that would account for the extra weight to,IMHO.

If it's plated with gold anyone have an idea of the value?

I am going to agree with mds308 on this one looking at the pictures. If it has any luster on the coin or if its shiny then the plated thing may be true but I have had coins that sat on my desk for a year or more that turned the exact same color. I don't see the buildup around the letters you usually see with plating either but as I said if it is shiny then I am probably wrong but can't see any luster or anything with the scans provided. It really doesn't matter when talking about value as they are both worth basically the same.
