The Bill Collector this is not the buy sell trade section of the forum and as such I am unable to respond to your offer.
Investing in a good currency book would seem to be counter productive as I have no real interest in Currency. So investing in a reference book to look up a few notes a year does not make economical sense to me. If I find something that might be of interest then I am more then happy to rely on the expertise of the forum members who are interested in Currency. Just as I am more than happy to give my opinion on any coin related questions that come up within my field. Since the note appears to carry little if any premium then I think it best to just spend it on a new addition to my coin collection. Thank you to all those who took the time to respond.

Not a problem nohope, I was just curious as to what you were trying to do, or what your method of collecting was, if any.
Like I said in my last post, I was just trying to help you out or maybe point you in some direction that would be helpful. I could see that you knew nothing about currency collecting by the questions you were asking, all they were about was what's it worth.
Being that you have no interest in currency collecting, other than what's it worth, probably the best place to check on values would be e bay or some of the other auction sites, the prices you see on those sites are the actual prices that collectors are willing to pay, that's about the best Info you will find any where, anything else is just a wild guess.
My advice is, if you are young, and can afford to keep what your finding at face value in small heads, and set on them, sooner or later some of them will be worth something, keep them all if you can, you are not trying to build a currency collection so it doesn't matter what you have, you can hellter skellter it, and if what you have goes up in value good for you, if it doesn't so what, you can spend it anytime you want for what you have into it. But why first turn to ebay when we have experts here? The purpose of this forum is education. To that end, a good answer would have been: "It isn't worth a premium / it is worth a premium, and here is why: xxxx." An explanation of why something would or would not have a premium is infinitely more helpful; it educates the person asking, and adds to their overall knowledge. Knowledge can, many times, lead to interest, and that's when the buying of the books is usually done. Interest + books = more knowledge = more in-depth and fun discussions, and everyone wins. NoHope is an expert in US 2-cent pieces, and I can guarantee that if you asked about one in the forum, his reply would NOT send you packing off to ebay to get your answers there.

There are a lot of collectibles forums out there where it is considered bad taste (if not strictly forbidden) to ask how much something is worth. Maybe the idea is that a "true" collector doesn't care about value and is purely motivated by academic interest or something, I dunno.
What I do know, however, is that I am very glad this this forum is not like this. Sure, it can be a bit annoying if some new poster shows up and floods the message boards with requests for free appraisals on all his stuff, but generally it's just members helping members. I try not to ask about value too much, but it's nice to know that not only can I ask, but I can also usually get a helpful response.

Quote: here is a really important question to ask yourself can you afford to have $50 dollars sitting around? if so then keep it if not then spend it. that's the question I asked before I posted Can I afford to tie up $50 and the answer was yes but only if it means a return. As it would appear from the answers I have here this is a common Star note with a run of 3.2 million so chances of it ever carrying a significant premium are pretty small so armed with that information my personal best option would be to spend it on something that will have a better chance of appreciating. If I don't the wife will use it for something else like groceries...

xshift and jbuck,
Sorry if I upset anyone with my opinion.
The reason I pointed nohope to e bay was because he admitted that he had no interest in currency collecting and only wanted to know what it was worth.
Before I mentioned e bay I thought he was becoming interested in currency collecting and did mention that maybe he should buy a book on currency, not necessarily a price guide book but a book that would give him some good info on the different types of currency.
I don't have much use for price guides books myself because it usually takes mouths to get them in print, sometimes prices change a lot before a price guide book gets into the hands of a collector, e bay and other auction sites are more or less in real time so there much more up to date.
Again sorry if my advice was not to liked by some, but I tend to try an help in what I think is the easiest and best way.
I can see a real use for CCF to have a "what's it worth" section for both coins and currency. This would not tie up the regular currency section and questions like what's it worth could be answered without interfering with currency collectors. I've seen other sites that have sections like that and they seem to work just fine. Again, just my opinion. Bill Collector

The Bill Collector you answers were very much appreciated. I thank you for the time you took to answer my posts. And in retrospect you were probably correct a search on ebay first would have most likely answered my questions. As for becoming a currency collector you never know maybe one day I will move away from the all consuming obsession that has dictated my collecting habits and branch out into something new. There was a reason behind my posts. if it turned out that any of the notes I posted were actually worth more than Face I would have listed them on CCF auction section.

But yet folks chime in and say KEEP it / list it on ebay and just post whatever. It's rather silly, borders on total ignorance and utter stupidity. I always notice that your replies reflect your personality in terms of aggression! You ALWAYS like "exhibiting" your knowledge and make the other party feels stupid!! If you would like to play a "Mentor" role, there are many ways to be nice to "ignorant" ppl (as you ALWAYS say/imply) when start enlightening/educating them. There is NO need at all to call them names (stupid, silly, ignorant ....etc) Why don't you just simply " IGNORE" such threads/posts and don't reply back?!! Do you think that by calling them names they will stop? You and some other members have had pointed out such annoying threads (the way you see it) in SEVERAL threads ...... Point taken, nevertheless, NO action!! Owner & Moderators do NOT mind posting such questions, so, why keep repeating yourself?! Why don't you take a lead and post some useful topics to discuss/explain and let "ignorant" (as you call them) gain some of your endless knowledge?! If your outstanding expertise can't cope with such questions/replies & your abnormal intelligence do not match such illiterate ppl, there is always a way out (you know?!) Quote: Perfect example " Nohope asks of the value of the note....yet a link is provided with the run size. This is an example of the way you providing feedback!! The other member was trying to help. Even if s/he was at fault, there is a "proper" way to build a productive conversation with him/her ... Quote: CCF should institute a rule of 2 to 3 posts per day....this will stop a lot of the nonsensical posts in a NY min and NOW
I am going to let these silly puppets down below run a mock. Since you are that annoyed of such threads, could you please enlighten the moderators what's the negative impact of such threads on the forum? How many members left the forum because of this? How many stopped posting? How intense such threads on the Forum which might lead to slow down its server for instance? Maybe, Mathematically ... Or even Statistically ( by taking an independent sample size "population" & calculate the Confidence Interval & Confidence Limits) ... Otherwise, implementing Six Sigma methodology and its tools would be a much of help ..... perhaps, Moderators will get convinced eventually and start taking some remedy actions Should you require further assistance/clarifications I would be more than happy to do so No offense, just my 2 Cents Cheers

I think this note would have commanded a nice premium if this was actually a replacement note inserted between non-star notes, and you had both the note before and after, making a 3 piece set. Outside of that I would consider spending it...

@John1 I checked out the currency site, clicked onto the Web Notes section and typed in a serial number where the 32 subject sheet for that series had the 3rd printing on the reverse, and received the production run, with no mention of the GP Block ending in 3051 being overprint errors. They have a "NOTE:" on the page with no mention of the error... I know it would be very time consuming, but if they added known sheet errors (since they are requesting a complete serial number), it could be a awesome site. I would offer them all the information on serial number errors I have should they put out a request for public information on errors... When I have time I'll check out the site for silver & gold certificates and see what's posted...

James Been here long enough to know that nohope's specialty is NOT currency. Yet he was being given misinformation by various folks. That's why I stepped in. When I first joined CCF one of things I did was to go back and read each and every post that has been made on the currency section from Day ONE. That's one of the ways I taught my self. No I do not claim to be an expert or specialist but do know the area I specialize in which are Fancy SN's and Star notes. Even in those 2 areas I still learn every day by reading, following ebay listings etc. The main issue here is the misinfo posted on the value of generic notes day in and day out. BTW, I have made suggestions to for the forum of having sticky topics where folks can go and research notes, started topics to have open discussions etc...to no avail. I know of some folks who do not post here anymore because of various issues you have noted and I have noted...and do keep in contact with some of them. Limiting of posts â€" Here is why...a lot of newcomers just post so that they can get 250 posts to jump over on to the BST to buy and sell.... This is FACT....week or 2 ago there was an issue with some coin transactions on the BST. To circle back on point.... The misinfo should be dealt with either by the mods / members here. Because someone reading the misinfo MAY go and buy a note that is worth only face value...and then find out it's not worth more than face value...and is going to be turned off from collecting currency....This is MY point. How you would deal with the misinfo posted... ignore is NOT an option.

Broken Coin:
It is my understanding that star notes are printed separately and are not sequential with regular notes, therefore one would be able to put any sequential notes in front and back and say they came from the saaame run.
