i remember some posts about how common various roman rulers coins where not long ago and remember thinking they didn't match up with the coins I had in my collection very well. most of my roman coins have come from uncleaned lots up to this point, and I haven't purchased any of these coins looking for a certain type or ruler (i have for non-roman ancients).

anyway, I'm moving my collection about after the pvc scare, had a few ancients left in an old album and have several incoming where I DID buy a specific ruler. so last chance to get something like a "randomish" sample of roman coins avaialbe purchased in lots. note I have several still soaking I didnt include. also nothing in my cull bag included. also sold about 70 coins...seemed to jive with what showed up below. 11 months of ancient coin collecting.

I've laid them all out and made kind of a histogram in reverse alphabetical order, arcadius is on the far right, urbs roma (probably should be lumped into constantine?) is on the far left...note 2 of each.

coin in on the upper left bunched together are my non-roman ancients.

the peaks...

constantius ii: 16 coins

constans and valens: 9 coins

constantine ii: 8 coins

constantine: 5 (+2 if add urbs roma, +2 if more add constantinople city commemorative).

i thought that was kind of interesting.

I love playing with my coins also! You could do the same thing with cropped photos of the coins so we can see all of them. If you check out the galleries and posts of some of the regulars (JW) and (Dionysos) for example, they have neat pictures of there whole collections of a specific type. It would make it easy to them "all laid out" and be able to tell which one is which. Just a suggestion. What you did there is kinda cool but tough to see. It kinda looks like a bunch of 2x2 flips....they could be Lincoln Pennies for all I know...

Pretty cool ... you have quite a few coins (you're getting quite the collection, eh?)

I dont know if I could stomach flipping mine - none are valuable and I like the feel of holding a bunch.

That being said, this is an excellent method of showing spread. You should try and make an alphabet of coin types.
