I have a big, heavy strong doughnut shaped magnet scrapped from an old old radio speaker, and taped it at the end of a 3 feet stick and walked around a large grassy area near home. just curious maybe an old coin would show up.

no coins but instead I got small black stones, about 1mm to 3mm in diameter, roundish in shape and easyly magnetized.

lodestones?

probably lodestones,yeah.

FYI, you wont get much with a magnet and a stick - most coins (good coins) arent magnetic and will all be buried. Instead, and you are very lucky yo have this shape, tie the magnet to a length of paracord (or rope), find a river and throw it in, drag it back and you could find all sorts of things.

The Philippines are a volcanic archipelago. Volcanic ash frequently contains an iron oxide known as magnetite, which can be collected with a magnet. I bet your granules are spherules that formed in a volcanic plume.

Thanks, we have many rivers here, both deep and shallow. I will try the magnet thing see what comes up!

Yes, when Pinatubo exploded, I had about half inch of white ash on my roof, weighed heavier than cement so you can just imagine the buckling of my roof shingles wow
