The 1947 Maple Leaf is a mortar set, that is the term Hans Zoell used for the chromium plating of the dies, that were chipping away and eroding at the edges of the devices (that is why the 'doubling' looks ragged). The 1947 Maple Leaf mortar set is Zoell H71n, and is quite hard to find. My best one is only F-12.

The 1943 is Machine Doubling damage, yours looks similar to mine, a doubled '43'. Hans Zoell did not catalogue this variety. He did catalogue a 'double 943' (Zoell R66d), which I imagine is a progressive Machine Doubling damage (MDD), because I have a doubled 3 and doubled 43 in my collection.

I have been hunting the Zoell varieties in mint state condition for about 10 years now - the fact that I have not found either of these varieties in mint state means that they are probably pretty scarce. Value of these coins do not reflect this - the demand is simply not there...

PS - this thread really belongs in the variety section...
