The U.S. Mint made it perfectly clear that ebay sellers claiming their boxes of Bison Nickels are NOT first strike coins, and that the date has nothing to do with the day the coins were struck. In an interview with CoinWorld, Mint Public Affairs director states that the claim used by sellers on ebay is false.
All first strike Bison coins are used in First Day Covers. There is NO way for collectors to determine the actual date of coins struck during the run.
The dates which began with 0000,14:14,02/16/05 or simular numbers are order tracking numbers issued by the person entering the order into the database and have nothing to do with when the coins were struck.

This is just another form of using "Hype" to sell coins to people who do not know any better.
Rest in Peace

Holy Cow Batman! What are Goober and Gomer at SAH going to sell if they have no "first strikes" to peddle. Will PCGS be able to stay in business? Will NGC start selling "second day strikes" and ANACS start selling "Cleaned third day strikes" ? Tune in next week, same Battime, same Batday, same Batstation!!!! hehehe From Alfred, BNN Live in the Batcave!

While the mint has made it quite clear will anyone else? Will ebay? Most non-collectors, new collectors or buffalo hoarders will never get this information so the joke will go on!

Maybe we should send the official link with that information to the sellers that are selling the bison nickel boxes....

CoinWorld says that they contacted several sellers. All still believed that they had first strikes and will continue to sell them that way. The Mint has the authority to make this stop under the "misleading" advertising law. Although I will be shocked to death if they actually did anything.
Here is a link to the Mint that can be used to report such items http://usmint.gov/consumer/index.cf...ion=HotItems
