Hello, I wouldn't call myself a coin collector or numismatist, but I do take a little interest in coins and I think this might be an interesting coin for somebody here. I bought this item recently after I noticed that it is very different from the usual 1926 Spanish 50 centimos coin. The usual one (KM# 741) is a Latin Monetary Union standard coin (2.5g weight, .835 silver, 18mm diameter, about 1mm thickness), has coin alignment, has "ALFONSO XIII REY DE ESPANA 50 CENTIMOS" lettering on the obverse and "CINCUENTA CENTIMOS 1926" on the reverse, has the engraver's name "E VAQUER" and assayers' initials "PC" and "S" present and has a reeded edge.
The item I have has the same thickness and looks like silver, but the diameter is much larger at 22mm and it weighs 3.8g. A quick calculation based on the dimensions and weight suggests that the density matches .835 silver as in a LMU standard 50c coin. It has medal alignment, lacks "REY DE ESPANA" and has "CINCUENTA CTS" lettering instead of "50 CENTIMOS" on the obverse. The obverse lacks the engraver's name but bears a letter "R". The reverse lacks all lettering except for the year "1926". The edge is smooth, but interestingly, you can see on the images what appears like a reeded edge would appear when looking at a reeded edge coin from an angle. This is just a surface device which is situated where the relatively wide rim of a KM# 741 coin would be situated. The outer diameter of this device is about 19.5mm, so the overall design is definitely a little larger than that of KM# 741. Around this device there is a narrow field, followed by the actual rim.

So there are several interesting features I would like to learn more about, such as the meaning of the letter "R" on the obverse and why the overall design is larger and doesn't have a regular rim and reeded edge. And of course possibly the most important and basic question is what kind of item is this? My best guess would be some sort of a non-selected trial strike or pattern, but I would really like to read the opinion of someone who is actually experienced. Then I would appreciate any suggestions as to how rare or valuable an item such as this would be.
