Well....I just got in and I see this coin has garnered some attention. So, if I understand the remarks in the thread, my tet is not Carinus, but Numerian. However, it does not seem to match Eddop's images, as my coin does not have a star as Martin pointed out. Anyone have an opinion if this makes a difference? I will have to search through my references to find it. Thanks for the info.

Nice coin! It seems like some provincials are harder to identify, apparently.

Certainly Numerian. There are two distinct types with and without star identified by Milne. The OP coin is Milne 4674 with Ed's year 1 coin being Milne 4694. Emmett doesn't seem to differentiate between the types.

Thanks for all the help on this one. I bought it as Carinus and just assumed the seller, a prominent coin dealer, knew what he was selling. I guess I shouldn't make those assumptions. I would have bought it as a Numerian so that changes nothing. Is there an on-line resource for this particular coin, Milne 4674? If there is I cannot find it. Thanks again.

I haven't seen one online and I believe this would be a worthy addition to WildWinds. The fact that we have found two examples from the same die pair could well imply it is quite scarce.

Do you want to contact Dane and see if she is interested, or would you rather I did? Thanks again for your help.

I just sent an email to Dane. We'll see how she responds. I also made an offer to the seller in Doucet's post. He is selling his coin for approximately $79 which is way beyond what I paid. My offer is much less than what he is asking. I will let everyone know how he responds. Thanks again to everyone for your assistance.

A little bit more information about the star used during the Carus period, I don't have the source anymore maybe Milne?:

Without star. With star.
Year 1 Carus 94 3
Carinus Caes. 126 4
Carinus Aug. 1 7
Numerian Caes. 4 4
Year 2 Divus Carus 10 3
Carinus 94 20
Numerian Caes. 1 â€"
Numerian Aug. 41 11
Year 3 Carinus 27 â€"
Numerian 7 â€"

From these figures it may be concluded that the use of the star was introduced rather late in year 1, shortly before the elevation of Carinus to the rank of Augustus, and was dropped before year 3. Of the coins of year 2, about a quarter, alike of Divus Carus, Carinus, and Numerian, have the star. It is clear that the issue of coins with and without the star was concurrent, and it is possible that the star was intended s a shop-mark : but, if so, it seems to have been introduced tentatively, as it may have been under Aurelian, and to have been dropped, to be revived more systematically in the next reign.

There is an interesting Dutch website for Tetra's but specially for you guys in English:

Just wanted to let you all know that Dane has included this coin in Wildwinds. I'm not sure, but I think I now have three or four coins on that site. I feel honored.

Is there not one listed already? Regardless, you can contact Dane and ask if she might like to include it on wildwinds. Do you have her email? If not, PM me and I will provide it to you.

Wow Bing => you got yourself another Wildwind-credit (geeesh, you're kinda like a mini version of David Sear)

Ummm, and I'm pretty sure that's not your first coin to make it to the big league, eh? (nicely done)
