I just bought this one, not a perfect coin but an inexpensive example of an incuse square coin.

Thrace-Thasos-Drachm

I was almost tempted to buy a second coin there to save on postage but I disciplined myself not to get carried away. They have a couple of Chalkis Euboria drachms with head of hera on one side and a bird devouring a snake on the other. One has good eye appeal though I a little worn and the other is better centred with better details for the same price. The fact that these are not dated and that I know nothing of the place combined with the cost allowed me to resist the purchase (they were in my cart for a few moments though while I wrestled with myself!)

Was this coin for sale on ebay? If so, I had it in my watch list, but deleted it only because I spent my wad on the Attica Aegina Turtle. These are interesting coins and this one is in fairly decent shape (I'm surprised this is not considered obscene by some as it doesn't look like the Satyr is running if you know what I mean).

Congrats. You got your incuse square within your budget.

I know what you mean and that is backed up because in another of this series he appears alone and is clearly maturbating.

They didn't have much other than carnal pleasures back in those days I guesss ^^

And no it wasnt on ebay...but there seems to be a number of these in similar condition and far fewer immaculate ones which command much higher prices.

Nice coin David UK

I like the nice amount of wear on the coin, it shows it was used a lot back in the day. It's well centered on both sides and is clearly recognizable (as Satyr running right, carrying off a nymph )

I always thought it was rather hard to run while carrying someone who does not want to be carried while in that position....
