I picked up two identical sets of these recently in a boxlot at an estate sale. Just wondering if anyone else has seen them, knows anything about them, when and why they were made, for what purpose other than adding to the immense amount of gimmickry that already exists on the periphery of the coin hobby. Zincoln shown for size comparison. World's smallest Ike dollar, anyone?

Gimickry, that's a good term for it.

I have a bunch of those. They are often sold in gag shops. I don't know anything about them in great specificity, but I know they were never intended for the numismatic world and are generally distributed (as joke coins) by the same companies that sell toys, dolls, and plastic nick-knacks.

See them once in a while sold as "inflation money" as a novelty item. They're usually sold in sets for cheap.

you can put a coin under high voltage to shrink them as well. I am not saying this is what these are but I have seen it done before. here is a video showing the process
