Quote: Even members could not order the 5 Coin set - Farewell to the Penny Members who decided to sit on fence. Members who wanted to order it were able to do so.

Regarding the Mint Tour: We took the tour this summer, and really enjoyed it. The guide was interesting and informative.

Do they allow to take photos during the Mint tour? Has anyone seen the making process of some "hit" coins during the tour? (The glass ladybug, glass bee, dino, two loons...)

I have a number of photos from my tour, but not in any of the actual workings in the mint. The boutique and outside were fair game.

My problem would be paying the shipping to get to the MC status. I do not buy from the Mint directly because I do not like their shipping fees. I have a good Post Office that gets me every coin, Laybugs, Bumble Bees, etc. It seems like it would be easier to remain an MC member once the membership is attained. You would also get to purchase the popular coins and flip them before they hit the public release. I don't see myself getting there unless they release a high price coin that appeals to me. I will stick with my Post Office. Having a good relationship with the Post Office is the next best thing.

Actually, I've bought most of my coins from local post offices. There are a few near me in drug stores. There is a corporate CP outlet not too far from where I live. The staff there are most helpful :)
I can't remember if cameras were an issue during the tour. I was so intent on the guide's commentary that it never occurred to me to take any pics during the tour. In the boutique, my wife and I took pictures of each other holding that big gold bar :)

I took the tour of the Winnipeg Mint in March when a friend came to town and requested it as part of his visit. We were expressly told no photography during the tour. It was allowed in the boutique area, just not in the prodction area so it sounds as though my experience was just like Dcadon's.

I think you have to be looking at it as a long-term thing, not as a way of saving a few bucks on one subscription.
If you're in MC for a decade, and pick up a half-dozen hot items that don't make it out of MC, then how much have you saved?

with Lithanial. 99% of my coins are from CP and local dealers. If I bought direct from mint, I've already a MC. I spend almost $2000 on RCM coins since I started to collect which is 6 months ago. I am not the MC. But read many posts in this forum. I don't like the way they treat their MC. MCs still have to wait for months to get their coins? I won't accept it. Might be too many MC nowadays. $1000/year is so easy to reach. They should raise that amount higher in order to limited the #s of MC members. And they can treat those members as a real VIP. Just my own opinions.

Hi, as a new collector, I have been struggling to purchase $1000 from the mint. I wanted to get a gold coin for my collection, hopefully gaining MC status. I did order the new RCM 1914 gold coin release. But seeing & reading all the issues with MC status, I am eagerly looking forward to all the info that everyone post here on new releases.

Purchasing the Gold Blessings Panda coin easily took me over the MC limit.
As for the Penny set...I was actually very hesitant on buying one myself (even as a MC member), but then gave in to peer pressure and bought one after I saw everyone hoarding them. Kinda wish I bought the full limit of 3 though!

The RCM used to publish The Master Club Collection. High quality glossy paper of all the NCLT released in the year. Very well done. I have the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. I never received the 2007... I also received a nice leather folder once. As a MC member, you also have a dedicated RCM rep. although I found myself often ordering from the web anyway. As I stated in the past, I would like to see some changes to the rules: 1. Release coins to general public/dealers/MC at the same time 2. "RESERVE" a percentage for MC members 3. Limit to 1 per MC member

I agree with the '1 per mc member' but at the same time, I think you are sort of blocking out the public then.
a) give a 1 week advance notice on new coins to mc members but limit it to 1 coin only per member. b) After one week, it's open to all. But, I'd still prefer to see a maximum of 2 or 3 to prevent the mad rush to sell out then scalping them at higher prices in the 2ndary market.
If there was a very limited edition - ssy 4000 mintage, you can't reserve only 400 or whatever number, for mc members. Let those that want them, get them first - that would be the perk. As has been realized over the course of this most recent release (1912-1914 golds), a purchase of even one coin can get you into the benefits.
It is just insane that a coin with a mintage of 25,000 sells out, and then commands a 5x premium during the following months - simply due to the scalpers.

Back to the scalper/reseller garbage if you were on the ball you can always get these popular coins at issue price when they come out it is not hard to do so. Supply and demand will always dictate the price if you don't like it find a new hobby that's free
