I'm looking for a listing of the value of the Birds of Canada series. I found the following list in an online listing from a coin dealer recommended to me by a friend:
Colourized 25-Cents Birds of Canada
2007 - Ruby Throated Hummingbird [104.95]
2007 - Red-Breasted Nuthatch [349.95]
2008 - Downy Woodpecker [169.95]
2008 - Northern Cardinal [279.95]
2010 - Goldfinch [139.95]
2010 - Blue Jay [54.95]
2011 - Barn Swallow [39.95]
2011 - Black-Capped Chickadee [34.95]
2012 - Rose-Breasted Grosbeak 29.95
2012 - Evening Grosbeak 29.95
I tend to believe it's at least reasonably accurate for a couple of reasons.
Firstly because they don't actually have any of them in stock at the moment, with the exception of the two grosbeaks and so they are presumably offering it as a guideline. The grosbeaks prices are identical to what the Mint lists them for, which lends a little more believability (is that a word?) to the list.
Secondly, the prices do seem to be at least somewhat in line with what most of them go for in
ebay auction. (The goldfinch is perhaps an exception--often more expensive in final auction costs.)
Not to say all
ebay items are in this range. Heck, one seller wanted over 400 bucks for the Barn Swallow coin! (Hello? How gullible do you think we are?) The "buy it now" choices are often overpriced, but that was a really bad outlier.
So, is there a good source to confirm or refute this? (The Charlton list doesn't help at all.) I'm OK with bidding up to what I consider to be fair, but not sure if I really have a good grounding on what fair is!
If you don't have an actual source, I'd be interested in your opinions, as I can see there is a great deal of expertise in the forum members.
