My first thought when getting this dime in change was that someone intentionally over-struck it with a washer or similar object. However the reverse side is completely unblemished. So... now I'm not so sure. Anyone eve see one like this before. Thanks, Doc

very cool. I think this was just post mint damage, or PMD. not sure what might have caused it. Looks like someone took a washer and wore the outer part away. lets see what others have to say

Thanks Guys. Pretty much what I thought initially. Always intrigues me when people do this. I am as much interested in the How as the Why.

Right there with you doc. I really can't figure out how this would have happened except for what I said in my first reply

I agree with bpoc1sorry, I take that back...Was not done by photo shop or Gimp..Look at the inside pixels of error on the left picture and the size of the pixels on the right picture which is outside the error...The pixels are the SAME size Also I believe this is a real coin...Remember it is easy to show a coin with an error that is not really an error...Look how easy it is (with GIMP)..I removed the "L" and "B" in Liberty...Did not spend a lot of time on it but you get the idea.

No clue why people would even bring up that this coin was photoshoped as it clearly isn't. I can spot a photo edit instantly (been doing graphic design for roughly 10 years now). I'm not so sure how "easy" it would be to fake an error coin with photoshop, even for me, and I've been doing graphic design for plenty of time. The above photo you provided Wert is very obviously edited. Looks like you took a healing brush and smudged it a little, about 5 seconds of work. If you could edit an error onto a coin and get it past me, I'll give you a cookie.

I've seen similar. I think it's probably caused by it getting caught in the wrong part a coin counter or coin rolling machine (happening with dimes because they're small and thin).

You are correct TheCentMan...the coin is as I said obviously genuine...Yes, I did do a pixelization test to proof to all who thought it was photoshop created, that indeed it was not...Also, you got me, I did spend less that 5 minutes to prove to the average eye that we can be fooled (but not you obviously) by appearance. Having said that TheCentMan, if I had spend about 1/2 hour, you would admit it would be very hard to tell..I have also done lots of work with photoshop and Gimp (my choice now). Hey, bottom line TheCentMan...GOOD EYE....

Hehe, wasn't trying to sound hostile or anything. I suppose it could trick those who don't have the same eyes/editing knowledge as I do. I also use a 35" monitor so images are quite large... that might be cheating haha. I'll always be on the lookout for photoshop fakes just in case, would hate to see forum mates get tricked. :)
Another good indicator that his image isn't faked, is the fact that the lighting and shadows are consistent throughout the entire coin. Would be very difficult mimic lighting/shadowing perfectly.
