This is a 1972 cent I saved when I use to roll search (years ago,mid 80's)looking for the 72DD and 83Reverse DD.

I looked in The Lincoln Cent Resource site, but I need help in placing this variety or is it a sub variety? I can only see the "In God We Trust" doubling, the date and liberty look normal.

So...Is it a sub variety of the 1972P-1DO-008?

Any help in Identifying is appreciated, throwing this out to the LC experts!

It looks like there is doubling to the south in the "L" of "Liberty"?

It's difficult to tell from your pics, but this appears to be 1972P-1DO-003.

Compare your coin to this:

@ willy13, upon looking with a 16x loupe I do see doubling at the lower part of the "L" in Liberty and also on the lower parts of the "B" and "R". I still do not see any doubling at the date.

@scurry64, the obverse looks like 1972P-1DO-003 as you referenced but I see no diagnostics on the reverse when comparing the photo's on the copper coin site.

let me see if I can get some larger photos at an angle for the liberty. It's hard to get the right angle. I will try some reverse pics if it helps also.

Here is a comparison of 003 & 008..yours is definitely one of them. http://www.lincolncentresource.net/...1972+doubled

And to answer your question...there is no "sub variety", but different die states will have or lack certain markers.

Thanks Maineman75. After viewing the link you referred, the 003 and 008 look the same to me. I can see why its hard to pin it down to one or the other. Either one is close enough for me.
