Hello,
New member here and new to coin collecting in general. I recently picked up a small coin lot of silver and can't find a whole lot of information on them and wondering if anyone had any information? The first is an 1801 5 Franc silver coin (Same size as US Morgan)that on the obverse has 'Union Et Force' and on the reverse has 'Republique Francaise' and 'L'an 10 K.' I have found a couple on the web, but most sites are in foreign countries and languages. Just curious of a possible value or a story behind it. Hopefully the attached pictures work. I took about 20 and these are the best I can get, need to research how to take good photos of coins (Looking for pointers!).

The second is a German silver coin that has 'Wilhelm II Deutscher Kaiser Konig V. Preussen' with an A mark. On the reverse it has 'Deutsches Reich 1910' and 'Drei Mark.' Unfortunately it appears someone at some point wanted to attempt to drill a hole, but didn't go too far, overall seems in good shape. If anyone could point me in the right direction to research some more on these it would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

First one is a Napoleonic French 5 Francs. Nice coin! The second coin I know a bit more about. 1910 3 Marks from the German Empire, Kingdom of Prussia. A stands for Berlin Mint. Not too valuable but still a very nice coin!

Thanks for the information! Is there anywhere I can find the values of these so I can determine if I made a good purchase? I also got a pretty worn 1877 Seated Liberty quarter and a 1944 Australian shilling in the lot. Having only been collecting for about two months I realize there is so much to learn.

I believe they have a full free catalog on the NGC website. Otherwise you could always buy a krause catalog. They go by century so you can buy whichever century you are most interested in. I personally have a 1901-2000 because I collect coins from 1900-1920.

The French coin is from one of my favorite series.
There are many interesting varieties concerning the number of acorns on the reverse.
This one seems to be a more common version and is about 50 euro in VG in my catalogue.

The 5 franc coin is a 5 francs of France, that at that time was a consulate. L'an 10 actually is 10 years after the end of the French revolution and the declaration of the republic in 1792. Therefore this coin needs to be dated 1801-1802 to be correct.
The K actually is a letter indicating the mint that produced this coin, being Bordeaux (also famous for its excellent wines nowadays). 60413 pieces of this coin were minted.
Referencing to the 2 major French coin catalogues, it is n° 563a in Gadoury and n° F300/3 or F300/4 in "Le Franc VIII" .
2 different varieties exist according to "Le Franc"; a date with point (being the normal strike) and a date without point behind it (being a rare variety)
Prices (in EUR, for USD multiply by approximately 1.25) :
Quality - Gadoury - Le Franc (F300/3) - Le Franc (F300/4)
MS58 - 1100 - 750 - unquoted
VF45 - 350 - 280 - 700
F25 - 150 - 80 - 350
G10 - 60 - 30 - 120

Upon review of the pics, I noticed the date clearly has a poit after the date and is therefore the more common variety of this coin.
