So while CRH, I found what from the edge looked like a steel Wheat penny. When I actually got to it I found this. I'm not very familiar with error coins as I only have a few. It looks to me like the copper plating has peeled off of the outer part of the coin, including the edge. Any insight would be appreciated.

I don't think so, as the diameter seems to be the same as a normal penny.

Microwave oven could be the culprit.

Hi all. I'm reviving this to see if anybody has any other ideas as to what could have caused this.

Thanks in advance,
Ross

Can't complain about the copper plating on this one: it hasn't got any!

Hello middross

Interesting find you have. I wish I had the answer for you but am not sure.

Just wondering..have you tried a magnet on it to see if its' magnetic?

It is hard to tell from the photographs, but it almost looks like someone tried to plate it with another metal over top of the existing copper plate already on the coin.
