Another day of garage sale hunting. Got 2 80% Canadian dimes and about 140 grams of assorted usable sterling silver jewelry and silverware for $17 total. Also gave my number to a lady whose coins are at another location from her garage sale. This and fun and will lower my DCA when I invest the profits I make back into coins.

I picked up 2 Walking Liberty halves at the LCS yesterday. I went with the intent of just picking up a Dansco album but I couldn't walk away without getting some silver while I was there.

7 Canadian 80% silver mint sets, containing $12.95 face of silver coins, a net total of 7.77 ounces, for $125, about 10% under melt, and they are quite attractive. 4 of them have the dollar commemorating the 100th anniversary of Charlottetown Quebec. Found on Craigslist

Mister,

I never can figure out the value of silver in each canada 80% dollar without feeling like I am back in 5th grade math.

Each coin weighs 23.33 grams and they are only 80% silver for about 18.6 grams of silver per coin. Is this correct?

No.

Each Canadian 50 cent piece minted from 1920-1967 weighs 11.66 grams. So, 9.328 grams pure silver per coin, or 0.2999 troy ounces of silver per coin.

You are both right, pre '67 80%;
$1 Cdn = 23.33 grams x .8 = 18.664 g / 31.1 g = 0.6 oz

50 cents = 11.66 g x .8 = 9.328 g / 31.1 =0.3 oz

25 cents = 0.15 oz

10 cents = 0.06 oz
