This is my first coin grade post! I have completed my collection of SBA dollars which I would like to get your opinions on, but to start out I would like your comments on the oldest coin of my collection. These pictures are taken with my scanner. I have not figured out how to take very close up pictures with my digital camera yet.

Let me know what you think.

When I get some time learn how to take coin shots with my digital camera I will repost this coin. I will say that it looks better than it does in this picture. The LIBERTY is very scarcely visible on the obverse.

Would you color this coin as Brown, Red-Brown, or Red?

One last Q for ya, the blackening of the coin. Is this a common tarnish?

I'd go with VG-8, as well. The color is pretty much a toss up with photos...hard to tell what the coin looks like in daylight. Still, a nice coin at 117 years of age! Better than I'll look at that age, I'm sure.

Tough to tell from the pics, but I go a nice VG 8. Nice coin.

I would definately say a VG08, as has everyone else.
Also, the color is definately Brown. A coin in this low of grade would not get really any color designation.
And yes, the blackening just happens on some.

Thanks for your input everyone. I will settle on VG-8. This coin will always be the 'cornerstone' of my collection, basically because it is my first 19th century coin.
