Ancient coins are not really my thing, today this one came in a bulk foreign coin lot I purchased. I know nothing about it and all I can really offer you guys is the pictures and the weight which is around 26.2 grams.

This is a Nero coin I've been after for some time. If it's not a fake, it is a scarce Sestertius with the temple of Janus reverse..

I'm not saying this is a fake by the way, but there are many fakes of this coin.

Does the weight seem right for a real one or is there any clues which would be a given as a fake? The edges are rounded off and there is some green stuff starting to form on it.

To my eye it really does not look like anything is wrong with it in terms of authenticity. It was improperly cleaned which hurts the value, but other than that it appears to be an excellent Sestertius. These coins are very pricey. Depending on what was in the lot you may have taken the cake on this one!
Could you try to upload a better picture of the obverse?

Edge pics and sharper images would be helpful. Interesting coin, non the less....
I am not an expert by any means but from what I see if it is a fake it doesn't seem to be an obvious one.

I see others think it that there may be problems with this coin. I am by no means an expert with these types of coins, so my earlier post should just be taken as an opinion.
What do you all think is off with this one? The lettering? I think that the lettering took on this odd appearance when the patina was stripped off the coin. It looks like electrolysis was used. Electrolysis can also cause pitting on the surface of the coin, which can explain what we are seeing there as well.

I think a nice edge pic could make the difference on this one... If there is no seam I would suspect it is the real McCoy...

That look like a very nice [genuine] and bold Nero sestertius The only problem with it being the minor case of active corrosion (? on reverse) that should be treated as soon as possible...

I agree. I just went through the fake reports and find nothing like it. I believe it to be genuine!
