A while back I found a 1928B 5$ Fed Reserve, it says redeeemable in gold, Note worn but not torn and a red seal $2 note in good shape

I have one of those in my collection, except that it's a Series 1928 and not a 1928B:

Before we went off the gold standard in 1933, the treasury was mandated to back a certain amount of paper money in circulation with gold coin, Once the depression hit and gold was in high demand, the gov't changed their stance which is why notes no longer say "redeemable in gold" on them.

Nice one barryg.....seems like the 1928 $5 frn's are tough in that condition....They got the heck used out of them!.....I love the old frn's.....Ton of history there
