I'm reading and learning about Mercury dimes-- grading, variations, values, etc in preparation for trying to sort and assess a large number of dimes.

In doing so I came across this ebay listing. I don't get it. First of all, MS65-- really? Second, even if so and even with FB, $105.99-- really?

I don't understand the grade or price of this coin. Do you see a reason why the asking price would be almost three times the listed PCGS retail value?

I thought to myself even before looking, "probably someone hoping to get a premium for the toning". After seeing it I think that's what's going on but the toning on this one isn't my cup of tea.

I am not surprise for the prices ebay seller place upon their items, there are some rediculus prices we all have seen too often.

ebay is a great place for free advertisement, it used to be easy to sell, now everyone has budget awareness, hoping to find a rough gem.

edit: Coins also can tone after in their respective holder (slab), but I agree with jokingjoker, it is rather distasteful.

PCGS's own guide has it listed at $39 - this seller is hoping to cash in on the "monster toning" fad, IMHO.

This coin was purchased at Teletrade for $32:

The coin had it's blotchy look than, however, it seems to have color toned since.

NumisMedia show this as a $300 coin. I've never though of NumisMedia as being too far off the mark.

I'm sorry, but this coin has ZERO eye appeal. The toning looks like it was removed with a strip of tape.

For "eye appeal", the worst MS65 coin I've ever seen.
