This was a toughie. It was in a very old 2x2 with the label "1861 Turkish Pound, $15". In pencil there was another price of $62. I'd say it's a tad higher now ;)

I googled and googled, found similar coins, translated the date to Gregorian calendar, etc, and I think it's an Ottoman Empire coin, 100 Kurus (aka Kurush aka Piastre?) and it's 1869, not 1861.

Can anyone confirm this and help with grade and current value?

Yep thats a 100 Kurush piece..As you may know Ottoman coins have the year of accession on them ( in this case 1861) and then the year of the reign the coin was minted in ( in this case year 9) Value( being very conservative): Roughly €250.00

Thanks, austrokiwi! Can you further educate me about the year? Was it minted in 1861? I guess I don't understand the 'year of reign' part and misinterpreted the chart I read as meaning 1869. What is the proper label for this coin?

OK just checked I was out just alittle: The date 1277 Bottom 2 photos refers to the year the monarch first came to power, 1277 started July 20th 1860........On the other side of the coin is the year of reign the coin was minted in which is year 9 for this coin...... so the coin is as you stated an 1869(1860 + 9) issue. It was struck in Constantinople
