As promised, once per week I'm sharing my last few coins I bought while I'm on my self imposed hiatus from buying. I sure have been tempted several times this past week, but with a little help from some of you, I am still on the wagon.

This week's coin is a Fourree of a Republican Denarius of C FABIUS CF HADRIANUS, reference Crawford 322/1, struck 102 BC:

OBV: EX•A•PV behind veiled & turreted bust of Cybele right
REV: C•FABI•C•F, victory in biga right; stork below
3.28g, 20mm

Republican-Fouree

If you look close you can still see some of the silver wash on the biga harness on the reverse.

I must agree, this is an exceptional fouree. I am fond of the obverse Goddess, I have a thing for veiled busts, I pulled this off of wikipedia, "In Rome, Cybele was known as Magna Mater ("Great Mother"). The Roman State adopted and developed a particular form of her cult, and claimed her conscription as a key religious component in their success against Carthage during the Punic Wars." Neato, good score!

Thanks all. I have another fouree I bought at the same time from the same dealer. It's more interesting in my eyes, but not as well struck. I'll show it next week (the Lord willing and the creek don't rise).

Hello JW-BingHa => yes, I think that your coin is very cool ...

However, there are so many "real" cool coins out there that I'm gonna spend most of my cash on the real-thing (unless DVC (Robert Deniro) and/or Batman catches me and calls "foul"!!)

However comma, that fouree is very cool (old fakes are pretty cool) ...

NOTE => my coin-buddy (dougsmit), once commented that the fouree better be pretty nice, because you shouldn't spend that kinda cash on a "real" coin let alone a fouree ... ummm, so that's when I decided to stick to real coins (*sigh*)

=> great advice, d-smith (thank you => you saved me a lotta cash)

Here is the deal: I like fourrees and have quite a few including some that are ridiculously rare. When/if I am finished with them, I'll need to find someone else who likes them. There are a lot of people who consider them not worth collecting so it may be harder to find a bunch of people beating down my door waving big money in the hope I'll sell them one. Buy all the fourrees you wish but don't pay more than you can find someone to match when you want out. ....or be like me and buy what you want and plan on dying with the stuff.
