I thought they are a government operated coin producer?

Frankly if it is well written it could be very interesting. Problem is it is only available to Canadians.

That is probably because most Americans don't want to be reminded of the War of 1812.

I recall a Canadian, who shall remain nameless, saying

Quote:
We set the White House on fire, got bored, and went home.

Can't win them all.

Scurry, you're more than 200 years old?

That's a contemporary quote...

I say it quite a bit to Americans who do not believe that we WON the War of 1812!
They believe they did

Similar Saying is;
Carthago delenda est!

Well America is still America so thats a win. Like the Russians in Afghanistan, they killed far more then they took but got worn down and left so the Afghans won. doesn't matter why you left just that you did

You sued for peace after we slaughter you.... When we were out numbered in some cases 100:1

We left cause you gave us a bunch of stuff and helped us get our sorveignty from the UK due to said war

I'd recommend not trying to break my argument... I've done major projects on the cause and effects of the war of 1812... And the US lost by far!

(1) I didn't say we lost the war. I didn't say we won the war. The war was a draw. No land was lost or gained by either side. The Treaty of Ghent was merely a declaration of the cessation of hostilities. The war was a draw.

(2) Canada certainly did not win the war. The US never declared war on Canada and Canada never declared war on the US. The war was between the US and Great Britain.

Come on now. Did I say I was there?

I love the USA and I am proud of my country. I'm sure you feel the same about Canada. I hold Canada in the highest regard. You have been a strong ally of the US for many years. Additionally, Canada produces the finest hockey players in the world. Kudos for that.

All of this chest thumping is pointless.
Let's talk about coins instead. I want a gold Maple Leaf. Would you trade yours for my 1975 Ford Maverick?

I might live in Canada... But I am British!

1) The War of 1812 was caused by the want of the Americans to invade Canada... The rest is an excuse... The Americans lost as Canada is a separate country!

2) I count it as a Canadian vs US as it was the invasion of the Province of Canada. Canadians held off the Americans for a year with minimal British help.

3) was Just a Joke

I'm too young to drive, I'd prefer my maple
Oh, I've got no bias...my ancestors fought on both sides

Against the Canadians we lost, against the British I'd call it a win because the major complaint we had against the British that started it was the impressment of our sailors and the interference with our shipping to other countries. Both of which pretty much ended with the end of the war I believe.

Ended in the middle of the War... The Napoleanic Wars with France finished, we didn't need to impress any Yanks...

And that was the excuse used to start the war.

My favorite quote from this era is:
"The conquest of Canada will be a mere matter of marching"

This was from Former US President Thomas Jefferson...

That is the real reason for the War of 1812, with the excuse of Impressment of US sailors to make it seem like it was a good thing to do...
Those who lived near the border did NOT want this war, and many regiments did NOT end up fighting, as they refused to fight their neighbors

Sorry JBuck...

I'm trying to provide an impartial opinion on what really happened, not what we were told happened by the Government...

I have no bias, with ancestors who fought for both sides, a family spit between counties and, most importantly, me being a Brit.

The lies about this war, spread by BOTH sides, are maddening to me, as I want to know the truth.

This is from a YN, so it might seem a little harsh.
