I'm curious to know if this is a proof 1968 S Kennedy like the grading says or if it's a deep cam. I have know idea who graded it as this is out of my grandfather's collection

Any thoughts about what a grade for this coin would be? Glad to hear you think it might be a deep CAM. I'll wait a while longer and consider sending it to PCGS.

DCAM is a term that is applied to proof coins to describe the level of contrast between the fields and devices. In the modern era, a proof could be brilliant(typical of 1950s/60s issues), Cameo(moderate contrast), or Deep Cameo(strong contrast). Currently, proofs are purposefully minted to be DCAMs. It is almost impossible to accurately grade a proof coin while it is in a 2x2 and your pictures are a bit blurry as well but this would not be a coin worthy of TPG grading, the fees would exceed the value of the coin itself.

Thanks for the information. Is there a safe way to take it out of the holder, or should I just leave it as is?

your half in my opinion would be a cameo but not a deep cam based on the reverse photo. Removal from the 2x2 and better images may change my opinion but there seems to be too much lacking on the reverse for a deep distinction.

Too hard to tell grade from images... but looks to be cameo, not deep cameo. Nice coin.

I don't like paper 2 x 2's, I would slip it in to an "air-tite" type holder and not submit it to a Third Party Grader, as mentioned above, the fees would be more than the coin is worth. Cameos are common place for clad (1968 to date) coins and rarer for Silver (pre-64) coins.

Still a nice looking Kennedy! Can you get some clearer images outside the 2 x 2?
