Hi all! I just purchased an 1873 Newfoundland 5 cent ( no H) and plan on having it authenticated. It grades AU but unfortunately cleaned. I plan on selling it once it comes back from grading, but I can't find any price data on ones of this grade. They say the H mark coins are rarer, but I can find lots of sales of them, just not many plain 1873 's in higher grade. Any thoughts on actually rarity? Thanks!

Nice coin!

US grade AU cleaned.

ICCS grade EF40 or EF45 and probably won't have any 'cleaned' comment.

Most Newfie coins have been cleaned.. Its really disheartening how hard it is to find uncleaned Newfie pieces...

Sorry, don't have my catalogue with me to confirm. It's probably an Obv 2 though. Check the pricing at http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ts-1865-1947

Trends lists this at $5K in an AU-50, and $2K in an EF-40.

Sometimes I use some coin dealer sites to get an idea of what things are selling for.

Very nice coin in a grade rarity condition. There are no known mint state 1873 coins out there, the finest known is AU-55, and only two others known in AU grade. Yours is probably a top 5 coin (technical grade), but it might not grade with PCGS (other than genuine) - still, a very scarce and nice coin!!

Yes Roach but there are 2 listed, just saying that some of these dealer sites can give an idea of what some of the retail prices are for certain coins.
