There are many of us who don't own one at all. It may be worn, but a scarce coin in any condition is better than none at all.

wow ... awesome and very rare Ruler (I like it!!)

=> from those two Rarity Lists that we came across a few months ago, good ol' Pescennius Niger rated #129 and #134 on the two lists (averaging 131.5 on the rarity scale!!)

One is also my count. What is most interesting to me is that the few coins you see almost never share dies with others. There are many with misspellings (like my reverse). The coins are crude and poor metal. All these things suggest they were made quickly in huge numbers but removed from circulation by order of Septimius. If this were not the case, their being poor silver should have kept them in circulation for many years (as with Mark Antony denarii). Really nice ones are really rare.

There is a really common fake with Apollo reverse, completely wrong style, too good metal and too thin flan that shows up regularly. It was made by Slavei in the 1990's. I paid $4 for mine. That is a fair price.

There exists a coin I really wanted but did not get. It was a Septimius Severus Emesa mint denarius overstruck on a Pescennius with the PESC showing clearly. It belonged to my late friend Roger Bickford-Smith. When his collection was auctioned by CNG I was holding my breath hoping it would be in there but he instructed the British Museum have first shot at his coins and they took it. I look at any Severus that shows multiple striking hoping to find another but it has not happened yet.
