Prison-Coin #12 => 12th of 15 coins (Herennius Etruscus Antoninianus)Again => this was the other coin that I entered into the "Simpulum" SMACKDOWN ... Herennius Etruscus AR Antoninianus
"PIETAS AVGVSTORVM Implements" 250-251 AD Rome Mint Diameter: 23mm Weight: 3.80 grams Obverse: Q HER ETR MES DECIVS NOB C, draped bust right Reverse: PIETAS AVGVSTORVM, sprinkler, simpulum, jug, and lituus (sacrificial implements of the priest ) Reference: RIC IV: 143 Numismatic Notes: A scarce type in attractive grade about VF!  NOTE => good ol' Herennius Etruscus is #98 and #104 on the two rarity-scales!! (averaging #101 on the rarity scale!!) ... this may be my rarest Roman Ruler (I'll have to verify that, later) anyway => I love this coin!!

Apparently I was incorrect ... Herennius Etruscus is my "2nd" rarest Roman Ruler: 1 - Diadumenian (averaging #118) 2 - Herennius Etruscus (averaging #101) 3 - Herennia Etruscilla (averaging #74) 4 - Florian (averaging #73) 5 - Trebonianus Gallus (averaging #70) ... wow, I don't have too many super-rare Roman Rulers!! (I'd better get kicked-out again and hoard a bunch more Prison-coins!!)  => I'm sure that a bunch (all) of you have Roman Rulers that rate higher on the two scales, eh? Well here it is:   PIETAS AVGG with a silver, bronzey, greenish finish. Its actually not as bad as I remember it! On a side note - does anyone know how to put pictures side by side, I thought I knew how but just tried and failed  |
