Never heard of them, but I'm sure the reason for the name is that the acronym is UNC. This is a highly searched term on ebay and if the title says UNC certified or graded, the auctions will get a lot of hits. Just another way to scam people...

What is "constent grading"? Is it a cross between consistent and constant? Wow.

I first ran across UNC about a year or so ago (they didn't have a website back then). I wasn't able to acquire one at the time but I did get pictures. They were too difficult to search for though since a search for UNC turns up a ton of hits and at the time there were VERY few UNC slabbed coins being offered and I just couldn't wade though all of the hits to try and find one.
I find this interesting, from their website
"The holder of each coin contains a PVC material which prevents reaction with the coins metal."
They do have a guarantee of authenticity, but it is limited to $500. As with most low tier services, they do not guarantee grading.

I read on an ebay guide to buying coins in auction that UNC is the same company as ANI (American Numismatic Institute), a third tier self-slabber company.

The reason I looked for a forum like this was because I started collecting again and bought several coins that were slabbed by UNC. Fortunately, the seller had a 7 day return policy and I got my money back.
However, 3rd tier would be a generous term. I would say 4th or 5th tier. A couple of the coins that were slabbed had fingerprints on the coin inside the slab! There was one particular one they had graded at MS68. I'm not an expert grader by any means, but what little knowledge I have, at best it should have been AU58. Be vewy vewy cautious and careful.

Hi everybody I am Old but new coming back into collecting coins again. I started in 1954 and 1966 got married and sold my whole collection. And I see in todays collecting is a big differtance then yesterday. Any way Therisker I bought a coin that was slab from UNC and it was a 1942D MS 68 rd A Gem untill I turn it over and a big finger print. I called UNC up and they said send it in and they will replace it at no cost to me. Well it's gone and I will let you know when it comes back

Sarg, welcome to the forum! We've got plenty of folks with lots of experience and expertise and a willingness to share and learn.
Please keep us posted on what UNC does and how it responds.
