Hello! After having an ebay frenzy over the weekend(I will be showing my wins when I receive them), this coin struck me as rather cool looking. I mainly bought this lot mainly for a nice William and Mary Halfpenny, this coin is an added bonus! I have not received this lot yet so the best image I am able to provide is a cropped ebay image. I understand if a complete ID is not possible as you can only see one rather worn side and not the other. All I can really make out is a bust facing right with a radiate crown. Also a distinctive "VS" above the head. The coin above is an old worn British penny so that gives it a slight size reference.(I would estimate around 25-30mm)
Any responses or suggests will be received with open arms ; like I said I understand if it can't be ID'ed properly until until better pictures are taken.

I think it says PIVS which, given the style, Id guess to be Antoninvs Pivs. Looks to be a sestertius sized piece - a darn good snag!

He ruled for a long time, so I dont think it will be a rare piece - but its in great condition for its size.

Excellent! It only cost me about £3.50 for the lot(of which I will make a decent return on the W&M H'penny) so I'm pretty pleased. This one I'll most probably keep for the time being

Any idea how big it is? Maybe see the rest of the picture?

It doesn't look like Ant Pius to me, looks later 3rd Century, from the remaining text I would possibly say Carausius but the bust looks like Aurelian or maybe Probus. TBH I'm struggling with the position of what looks like the 'VS' at 12 O'clock

From what I can make out from the bust details, I don't believe it's Antoninus Pius. The style looks later. What does the reverse look like?

I've also enhanced your image a bit, still not able to say for sure. If I were to guess I would say Aurelian.

I dont think Carausius - Unless its got some serious kerning issues. I reckon this might need to be in hand to ID. Unless that says caraVSivs or caravsiVS. but then whats all the rest of that side? IMP C CARAVSIVS P H AVG?

If it is Carausius then well done! A snatch! Worth quite a bit to us Brits is Caravsivs - if its reverse is AVGGG then you have a really nice thing on your hands.

To be with these coins does make sense though, if they have been dug up.

Like I say it doesn't look like a typical Carausius bust but the remaining text, although poor seems to support it is one of his.

The enhanced bust appears to be Carausius.

A pretty happy coincidence Id say. Its a convincing sell - but its the first half thats needed to prove it. Looks like you'll need the coin in hand and some better pictures for this one.

I was watching an ebay unattributed metal detector lot yesterday that had 3 Carausius coins in it, total lot was only about 12 coins. I 'un-watched' it as judging by the price others had spotted them also! Just tried to find it again to link here but had no joy, it was a nice group of UK minted and found coins.

Thank you very much for input ,That would be excellent if it is a Carausius; To be honest I only bought it for the center coin which I will be able to sell on to a friend of mine for easy profit, I didn't actually notice the roman until after had won the lot! I'm sorry that I am unable to provide you with more info. I will be waiting eagerly for the postman's arrival over the next few days. If I am very very lucky I may receive it tomorrow!
Also judging by its size from the pennies above what do you reckon the denomination of this coin is?

Its an Antoninianus and I think we will know for certain who it is as soon as you get it in hand.
