I'm at a loss here as to what exactly this is. It's part of my grand parents estate and my father told me it was valued at around $500 dollars. He didn't have much more info than that. Any help would be great.

Silver medal, in old german. I dont know much german but it reads:

SOLCHS VNS ZVM NEWEN JAHR VERLEYH MDCXXXV

How I believe the modern text would read:

SOLCHES UNS ZUM NEUEN JAHR VERLEIH 1635

Heres a paragraph from an old book I found through Google search, run through google translate into English:

Quote:
Anno, 1646
Memento , Mori.
56. 1635. Zilveren duitsche nieuwjaarspenning, groot
37. Vz. De aanbidding der drie koningen. Buiten-omschrift
Ein reiner Glvb, ein Sevfzer hoch. Gedvlt vnter des
Crevtzes Joch. Binnenomschrift Die Stvck Golt. Weiravch
Myrrhen sind Schenckt man dem neugebornen Kind. Geteekend
S(ébastian) D/adler). S tempelsnijder te Augsburg 1619â€"1653.
Kz. Het genimbeerde Christuskind met opgeheven handen
en in de linker den met een kruis, in top versierden wereldbol
torschende, Woweven door wolken en daarboven de
naam Jehovah. Twee omschriften Jesvs sein Wort erhalte
fort Schvtz vns darbey Von Tyraney. Solchs vns zvm newen
Jahr verleyh. MDCXXXV.

Quote:
