I don't know how I kept up with the weekly demands of writing new coin material all year- while working on the Ike book, but I barely did. In Hubert and my second housekeeping column of the year, we catch up on proposed commemorative programs, find another bad coin youtube video, and discuss CladKing's disagreement with our position on common gold

I hope you enjoy, god bless, and have a happy holiday!

Another fun article.

The Franklin half dollar is one of a handful of coins that were changed before the statutory 25-year window. Can you name any others?
Oh, I can think of one, only because it is always on my mind.

Ike
I don't understand why...

JBuck, I think you would like this idea;

Stop producing the penny, make the nickel out of plated steel, stop making dollar bills, put a constant Lincoln obverse on the dollar coin, start producing a $5 coin with a classical style Liberty design and make the former Eisenhower dollar the $10 coin!

Great article. Thank you for taking the time to write about Pre33 gold. Over the past month or so I have considered making a purchase, but the price swings in gold make it difficult. To think a 100 year old coin has the same value as one straight from the mint is frustrating. That would be like a MS63 Walking Liberty half valued the same as a silver 2012 Kennedy.

I caught the comment about Lincoln's 50 cent piece during the movie Lincoln. I thought that living presidents were not featured on US coins so when I came home, I did a little research and discovered the fractional coinage. I learned a bit about that and then started reading about Civil War which lead to something else,etc.
Now I have the rest of the story!! The referred to monies were still not in existence at that time.
