Not my field of expertise, but that coin is way to round to be an 'Ancient'.

An utterly modern tooled piece of metal in my opinion.

21 bids! I suppose Several people didn't know what it was and hoped it was rare. I agree with maridvnvm-- it is entirely modern and worthless to informed collectors.

wow, that's crazy. well, it is over 100 years old, so maybe that type of thing has a value to some people in its own right....i guess it does if it sold for that much with that many bids.

Perhaps they were first made over a hundred years ago, but they're still being made today. Without some kind of provenance to prove it's old, assume it's modern.

The obverse is supposed to be of a king Seleucus - BASILEWS SELEYKOY - but the letters have been degraded over time, as the copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy effect takes hold; this one reads something like BASILEW SELPYBOY.

One some of these "pig coins", the "pigs" still look like the elephants they were presumably supposed to originally be. But there is no genuine ancient coin these pieces were modelled off. Given the extreme "tooling" all these pieces bear, I'd assume the "original" a hundred years ago was a worn and badly tooled genuine ancient coin.

I think its bronze & Its almost as big as a silver dollar.

I had no idea that these... things... were so large.

As for the amount paid, I'd assume it's the same combination of ignorance and greed that makes other ebay fakes/fantasies sometime see big money.

The tooling isn't quite up to this level of craftsmanship:
