Not sure as to what type of roll hunting you are doing? But for my doing cents I keep a couple sets of stats:

I keep stats on every $100 searched by Copper, 1982, Canadian, Wheat, Total found, Percentage found per $100 searched.

Then on every $25 box adding up to $100 I keep the same stats and then those stats are transferred to the section of $100 searched.

I also keep track of melt value for the found copper as well as an overall percentage of copper found.

I keep no record of purchased copper cents other than quantity and cost broken down by 1982, Wheats, and all other.

For silver found I keep no record other than to record the date and quantity found. Found price does not fluctuate and if I want to know current value I go to (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com.

If I find a cent or nickel that I think is particularly worthwhile I just put them into a 2 x 2 label it and file it away in an appropriate storage container. All saved copper is placed into a wrapper and put into a Brinks box and saved. All other cents are just bundled up and taken back to the bank for processing through a coin counter for either deposit or cash to go to another bank to buy more coins.

Hope this helps.

Way, way back I started Excel spread sheets for coins. I had column headings for all kinds of STUFF. After my collection grew and grew and I realized all that made little difference, I stopped a lot of that. Now I keep a spread sheet that basically has date, mint, grade. Prices change to often. Where purchased means nothing in 20 or 50 years either. I just keep it as simple as possible.
