Got 5 coins from my wife for xmas, 3 of them Imperial. Got 4 identified, but cant find this one. I found a Julia Domina reverse that is similar to this, but the letters are different and the obverse I don't think is Julia Domina. I looked through the aorta book, Dirty old coin data base, and Wildwind data base and came up empty. I thought I see if any one here could help. Pics aren't the best, My first time using a scanner. My only lens w/macro is in a trunk in the libary thats being used as a xmas tree stand.. Cant get to it til after the new year when we de-xmas the house. Thanks Dennis

Well, its a legionary coin. that reverse is, at least. I think its in greek - so provincially struck. But I dont see anything to indicate a female portrait and I doubt they'd strike a legionary coin with a female on it.

I'm not at home and this tablet is a pain in the arse, but your coin is a provincial probably from Nicaea.

IMO the legend doesn't seem right for Gordian III, I'm thinking it might be Elagabalus.

The Severus Alexander looks like it. The letters on my reverse are Ni-K-R?-?. Can't read a couple. Does that make a difference ? As you can tell, my knowledge of ancients is zero Thanks guys. You rock

This is one of the most common Roman Provincial coins. While this one is Severus Alexander The reverse exists for other rulers but none of them have a xi in their names. These are so common that you even see barbarous replicas of them. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/do.../sanic2.html
