Should I send to slab and roll the dice that its an MS65 FSB? That's a $500 coin on the right auction day. It cost me $16.50 on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/38052260589....m1439.l2648

which, even if its not an FSB, its still an aggressive pickup for the money.

Take a look at the sellers pics and of course here are my shaky IPHONE shots, cropped and all, so enjoy, please opinion on whether I should send or not...my decision will be heavily weighed on this gallop poll...i trust you guys more than myself...thanks

check sellers pics on auction link above, you really can see the FSB IMO...

My opinion is MS-64 full bands. very close on the center bundle but I think it's just shy of full split bands. I am sure the Merc experts will chime in.

Beautiful pair of Mercs for the price!

I think you got a good buy of both coins for the price, especially the 39-S, the strike for this year center band are normally flat, and yours showing above 70% split, but I don't believe it qualify for FB designation, plus there are rubbing on the obverse showing from the seller photos, so my guess is about MS-63.

I agree with mac, don't think this one will TPG as a FSB.

I also agree with the previous remarks. You got a great deal on your purchase, but I believe this coin will fall shy of getting FB and has pretty much no chance at MS-65. There are very minor hit issues at various parts of the coin. You also have a strike problem between 11 and 1 pm on the reverse motto. I think they'd dock for it at more lofty grades. All minor, but add them together and you have an MS-63, maybe 64.

I agree, it's not FB unless the pictures are misleading. Still a nice strike for the date. '39-S is usually horrible. I think it's probably MS63, but it's hard to be sure from the quality of the photos - it could be 64 once you get it in hand.

The ebay images show a coin that would grade AU58, in my opinion, without FB designation. Look at the scuffs on the highpoint of the cheek for Ms. Liberty and the light hairlines on the coin. These are indicative of very light circulation wear.
